Jatibarang field Q1 output lower than target, prepares new measures

PT Pertamina EP (PEP), an upstream subsidiary of state owned oil and gas firm Pertamina, said that oil production at the Jatibarang field in Indramayu, West Java Province, in the first quarter (Q1) of this year reached 6,081 bpd, or only 84.2 percent of the 7,220 bpd target.

Pertamina said in a statement Wednesday that gas production was 51.08 mmscfd, or 85 percent of the 60.07 mmscfd target.

Jatibarang field Manager, Herman Rachmadi said in the statement that while natural production declining rate is unavoidable at aging fields such as Jatibarang, the company will implement a number of measures to help lift production so that it could meet the output target later in the year.

One of the programs taken by the company is stimulation of wells suffering from scaling problem and rising water content such as in the Asia Besar and Jatibarang structure. Another program is reparation of wells undergoing problem in artificial lift so they can provide optimal production gains, thus slowing down the natural output declining rate. The company also will accelerate volcanic rock reservoir fracturing program covering 18 wells, each of which hopefully could provide production gain of 200 bopd, Herman said, adding that similar volcanic fracturing program at JTB-84 well in November of last year succeeded in providing production of 440 bopd.

In the 2017 budget and work program, Jatibarang field plans to drilling five new wells at the Jatibarang Structure, two wells at the Karang Structure, and one well at the Randengan Structure with average final depth of around 2,000 meters. In the Jatibarang Structure, the drilling program is planned by using underbalance drilling method. ?The eight new drillings hopefully can provide production gain of about 800 bopd per well,? Herman said.

In March, Jatibarang field conducted reparation program by reactivating two wells, which managed to produce gas. ?This year, Jatibarang field has well service program covering 30 wells, well intervention in 59 wells, and workover of eight wells, as well as additional volcanic fracturing of 18 wells,? Herman said.

Another strategy of the Jatibarang field management is evaluation of wells at the X-Ray Structure which still have huge potential at the X-26 layer.

The largest contributor to the Jatibarang field production currently is the X-Ray Structure, located offshore Indramayu, with production rate of 3,500 bopd, and the Jatibarang Structure with production of 1,200 bopd. Meanwhile, gas production is contributed by the Melandong Structure with production of 10 mmscfd and Jatibarang 9 mmscfd.
