Jatigede hydro power plant to start construction end 2014

Construction of the Jatigede 110 MW hydro power plant in West Java is expected to start end of this year, in the hope that it will be completed within three years period, said Director of Construction and Renewable Energy at state-owned electricity firm PLN, Nasri Sebayang said on Wednesday.

He said that the power plant would help increase the supply of electricity in the Java-Bali system particularly during peak load.

Nasri was quoted by Koran Tempo as saying that PLN is also preparing to develop more giant power plants in West Java including the 1,046 MW Upper Cisokan hydro power plant, 2,000 MW Indramayu coal-fired power plant, and the 4,000 MW Karawang coal-fired power plant.

?The energy potential of West Java is quite huge. We?ll develop it properly to meet electricity demand in West Java, and also to be distributed to the Java-Bali system,? he said.

Meanwhile, Netto Mulyanto, a General Manager at PLN, said that tender for the construction of the US$200 million Jatigede hydro power plant is almost completed. ?Tender is almost complete, only evaluation stage and appointing the winner, possibly from China,? he said. (*)
