Jatigede hydro power plant to start construction next year

Construction of the long-delayed Jatigede hydro power plant in Sumedang, West Java, is now scheduled to start next year, and to be completed in 2019, said Director of New and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Alihudin Sitompul earlier this week.
?Currently, it (the project) has entered design tender stage, to start construction next year,? he said in a press statement.
The Jatigede hydro power plant is part of the Jatigede Dam project first envisioned in the 1970s to irrigate about 90,000 hectare. s of rice fields and help solve reoccurring floods in Cirebon and Indramayu.
The US$240,000 project is also designed to produce 110 MW electricity. Contractors include state-owned construction firms PP, Wika and Waskita, in partnership with China?s Sinohydro Corp.
