Indonesia Power?s president Firdaus Akmal said that the construction of the second unit of the Grati power plant was actually completed in 1996 but it had not been connected to the Java-Bali power grid due some technical reasons.
"The operation of the second power unit increases the power generating capacity of the Grati power plant to 800 MW," he said in Pasuruan following the official operation of the power plant.
With the operation of the new power unit of the Block I power plant, the Grati power plant has two power plants. The Block I power plant with a capacity of 400 MW uses a combined cycle technology and equipped with 3 x 100 MW gas turbines, three units of Heat Recovery Steam Generation (HRSG) and a 200-MW steam turbine. The Block II uses an open cycle technology with 3 x 100 MW gas turbine.
Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of the state owned electricity company PLN responsible for the operation of power plants, directly operates the power plant. (*)
