Java-Bali transmission line to face power disruption

The power supply to Java-Bali transmission line will again face disruption as the 2x660 megawatt (MW) Tanjung Jati B coal-fired power plant likely to stop its operations due to the lack of coal supplies.

State electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN)?s general manager for load and transmission center (P3B) Muljo Adjie said that the coal stock at the power plant has been already diminishing because there has been a disruption in coal supply since January due to bad weather. The ships carrying coal couldn?t dock at the port.

?Unfriendly weather has lead to the disruption in coal supplies to power plant starting from January to March. The waves reached the height of up to two to four meters so the ships encountered problems in docking at the port,? Muljo said

In order to secure electricity supply in Java-Bali transmission area, Muljo said PLN is currently optimalizing power production at several diesel fuel and combined-cycle power plants, such as Muara Tawar combine-cycle power plant, Grati power plant and Gresik power plant.

Muljo said that it needs an additional diesel fuel supply of about 10,000 kiloliters per day to anticipate the disruption. (godang)
