A 2x10 MW coal-fired power plant in Hotelkamp, Muara Tami District, Jayapura, Papua, is scheduled to start operation in September of this year, Antara reported on Friday.
The news agency quoted local official of state-owned power firm PT PLN, Nasarudin as saying that the company is currently in the process of finishing the remaining works including construction of electricity towers.
He, however, acknowledged that that out of the 67 required towers, six have yet to be developed due to land acquisition problem.
He said that the coal-fired power plant has yet to be able to fulfill the electricity demand in Papua. That?s why PLN will develop more plants in the future including gas-fired, hydro and fuel-oil power plants in Jayapura, which has peak power demand of 75 MW. (*)
