JBG warned for not reporting force majeure measure

The ministry of energy and mineral resources will issue a strong warning to South Kalimantan-based coal mining company Jorong Barutama Greston (JBG) for a delay in reporting its force majeure decision.

Bambang Hartoyo, a senior official at the ministry's coal and mineral directorate, said in Jakarta on Wednesday that JBG made a force majeure decision end of June to its buyers and supplier after massive floods forced the company to halt its mining activities.

But the company only reported the decision to the ministry only this week, after the measure had been lifted, he said.

"Honestly, we are quite angry with the company's management. They should have consulted us before declaring the force majeure. It is an important decision so that it could not be made unilaterally," Bambang said.

JBG, a subsidiary of Thailand's energy company Banpu plc., produced 3.08 million tons of coal last year. (godang)
