East Kalimantan coal miner PT Jembayan Muarabara, a coal unit of Singapore-listed coal mining group Sakari Resources Limited, formerly Straits Asia Limited, is expecting a lower coal sales in 2011 to around 9 million from the previous year?s sales of 9.6 million tonnes, an industrial source told Petromindo.Com.

Jembayan mine was not able to realize more sales in 2011 compared to 2010 total sales due to the Mahakam bridge collapse accident, which happened at the end of November 2011, the source said, without giving further details.

Earlier, the parent company said in a statement that coal barging is currently allowed during a 5-hour period each day with safety remaining a concern for the authorities and shippers.

Sakari had managed to complete all its planned shipments from the Jembayan mine in November before the collapse and will continue to work closely with customers on revised delivery schedules until normal barging traffic resumes.

The company is expecting to produce 12 MTPA in 2013, but it plans to produce around 10 million only for this year, little up from 2011?s coal production target of 9.4 million tonnes.

As of September 2011, Jembayan mine had produced 7.2 million tonnes with coal sales volume at 6.7 million tonnes.
