The Jember administration in East Java has revoked the mining license of mining investor Jusuf Merukh following massive protest from the local people and non-governmental organizations over the plans to mine the Taman Nasional Meru Beti conservation park, the Neraca daily reported.

Director general of mining Surna T. Djajadiningrat confirmed that the license of Jusuf Merukh to mine in the conservation area had been revoked.

Asked whether other investors could obtain the license to mine the same area, Surna said that it would depend on the Jember administration, not the central government any longer .(*)
