Jero tenders resignation, Chairul may be named ad-interim minister

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik tendered resignation letter on Friday after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declared him as a suspect in alleged extortion cases, reports said Saturday.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Chairul Tanjung was quoted by Bisnis Indonesia as saying that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has accepted the resignation, and would issue a decree early next week to appoint ad-interim energy minister.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesman Aldrin Pasha was quoted by Kompas Saturday as saying that President SBY is likely to appoint Chairul as the ad-interim energy minister.
The current administration will end its term on October 20.
The KPK named Jero as a suspect in alleged extortion cases committed during 2011-2012 to raise funds to finance the minister?s operational expenses as the budget allocated by the state was deemed not enough. (*)
