"I?ve just had a bird?s view of the Cepu Block. It made me feel optimistic that it can reach a production capacity of 165,000 barrels per day in October next year,? he said during a ceremony to inaugurate the graduates of Cepu Oil and Gas Academy (PTK AKAMIGAS) in Cepu, Central Java, on Thursday.
According to him, if Cepu Block reaches the production of 165,000 barrels per day then Indonesia will be able to reach a production of one million barrels per day.
He said that he will summon next week ExxonMobil executives to report to him the latest progress of the Block development project.
During the same occasion, the minister has also asked all regents around the block area to conduct consultative meetings with the local people on the oil and gas development. ?The natural resources given by God should be shared for the public welfare,? he said.
He asked ExxonMobil to realize its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and if possible the funds for such programs should be increased.
"There shouldn?t be a condition that we have a big project operating here but our local people are still in poverty,? he said, adding, however, that the local people should be cooperative in securing the operation of the project.
