Chinese shipmaker Jiangsu Eastern Shipyard has won US$61.5 million contract to build two oil tankers for state oil and gas company PT. Pertamina, a Pertamina official said.

CEO Ari Soemarno at the contract signing ceremony in Jakarta Thursday said the tankers with capacity of 85,000 LTDW (Long Ton Dead Weight) each would be delivered in July 2010.

Ari said the tankers were needed to transport fuel products domestically. According to Ari, Pertamina is currently trying to increase the number of its own vessels to increase efficiency.

He said that for this year Pertamina would order eight new vessels, including 2 LPG tankers, which are currently being put on tender. (godang)
