JOB-PPEJ, the operator of the Tuban block, confirmed the accident, first reported by local fishermen. ?Yes there was a leak at the underwater pipeline,? Junizar, Field Manager at JOB PPEJ told the local news portal suarabanyuurip.com. ?The pipeline leak occurred at about 1 kilometer from the shoreline. Crude pumping has been suspended since (Thursday) afternoon,? he added.
Junizar explained that the JOB is now trying to deal with the leak by applying pipe-clamp and the resulting oil spill.
This is the second major accident suffered by JOB-PPEJ this year. In May, a fire incident occurred at a rig operated by the JOB-PPEJ.
PPEJ said last year it planned to drill 10 development wells and one exploration well at the Sukowati field in the Tuban block, in East Java, this year.
As Joint Operation Body, Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE) holds 75 percent participating interest and PetroChina East Java holds 25 percent. (*)
