The 4x25 MW MPP is part of the 35,000 MW power projects, the firm said.
The MPP will use liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel. Once completed, it will raise PLN?s supply capacity in the province to 425 MW. As of the end of December, peak load in the province reached 325 MW. The province will thus have a reserve of 100 MW or about 30 percent.
The MPP Kalbar, whose development is estimated to cost US$75.36 million, is expected to enter the local grid trough the Parit Baru substation in September of this year.
Jokowi also inaugurated PLTU Ketapang, located in Sukabangun village, which has two units, each with the capacity of 10 MW. The first unit entered the local grid last March, while the second unit will come onstream in June. Both units will start commercial operation in August.
The inauguration ceremony was held in Mempawah, the capital of Mempawah regency.
?Why did I come to this location this afternoon? Because I heard that there is a power plant project here which has been stalled for seven to eight years. I also want to see the development progress of MPP, which is expected to be completed in September,? the President said in his speech.
He did not specify the stalled project and the reason it has been stalled, but said a total of Rp 1.7 trillion has been spent for the project. The stalled project is located close to the MPP?s site.
He thus called on PLN?s President Director Sofyan Bashir to resume the construction of the project.
"Seven years have passed without benefits. Imagine, Rp 1.7 trillion has been spent. Each problem should be solved. I have told the PLN?s president director that this must be finished. He promised to the finish in December,? Jokowi said.
