Jokowi kicks off several power plant projects

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) officially kicked off on Monday the development of several power plant projects, which are part of the 35,000 MW power plant program.

The event was held in Samas, Bantul regency, Yogyakarta, where one of the power plant projects, PLTB Samas biomass power plant, is located. He was accompanied by among others Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said during the event, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a satement.

During the event, aside from officially launching the groundbreaking of several power projects, Jokowi also witnessed the signing of Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs) between state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) and several Independent Power Producers (IPP) and a Letter of Intent (LOI) of EPC for several power projects

Following is the list of the power projects for which PPAs, LOI of EPC were signed and grounbreaking was held on Monday
1. PPA for PLTB Samas biomass power plant in Yogyakarta (50 MW)
2. PPA for PLTU Kendari-3 coal-fired power plant in Southeast Sulawesi (2x50 MW)
3. PPA for PLTU Jeneponto Expansion in South Sulawesi (2x125 MW)
4. PPA for PLTA Malea hydropower plant in South Sulawesi (2x45 MW)
5. LOI for EPC of PLTU Grati power plant in East Java (450 MW)
6. Groundbreaking of PLTA Jatigede power plaant in West Java (2x55 MW)
7. Groundbreaking of PLTU Takalar power plant in South Sulawesi (2x100 MW)
8. Groundbreaking of PLTU Pangkalan Susu Unit 3 and 4 power plant in North Sumatra (2x220 MW)

PLTB Samas and PLTA Jatigede are expected to add 120 MW to the Java-Bali power grid capacity by 2019, while PLTU, PLTU Takalar and PLTU Jeneponto and PLTA Malea will add a total of 640 MW to the supply capacity in Sulawesi power system, the minsitry said in a statement.
