Jokowi to inaugurate alumina smelter next month

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is expected to inaugurate on May 21 the operation of an alumina smelter in Ketapang, West Kalimantan, according to Ketapang Regent Martin Rantan as quoted by Antarakalbar.com on Wednesday.
The 1 million tons per annum-capacity smelter is developed by PT Well Harvest Winning Alumina Refinery, a joint venture between Indonesia?s Harita Group through PT Harita Prima Abadi Mineral (25 percent) and China?s Hongqiao Group. The US$1 billion smelter was initially targeted to start operation in October of last year.
The joint venture company plans to develop a combined 4 million tons per annum-capacity of alumina smelter in Ketapang in four stages, targeted to be all completed in 2021. Once the first stage has started operation, the company will proceed with the construction of the second 1mtpa smelter this year. (*)
