Jorong Barutama stops mining ops on land permit problem

South Kalimantan coal miner PT Jorong Barutama Greston (JBG) is forced by local police to stop its mining operations since last week due to land permit.

MS Marpaung, a senior official at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that the mine is suspected to operate in protected forestry area.

JBG is a subsidiary of IDX-listed coal miner PT Indo Tambangraya Megah (ITM), which is controlled by Thai energy conglomerate Banpu PCL.

ITM Spokeswoman said in a release that ?The Company is continuing to monitor the situation and is working towards a positive, prompt resolution.

The mine produced a little below 3 million tonnes of coal in 2009. (godang)
