A Floating Regasification Unit (FRU) facility developed by Jaya Samudera Karunia (JSK) Group will be installed to the Benoa mini-scale LNG Terminal in Bali next week, according to an official at JSK Group.

The official, who declined to be named, said to Petromindo.com that the FRU was launched late February in South Korea.

The Benoa LNG Terminal is operated by PT Pelindo Energi Logistik (PEL), a subsidiary of state owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III.

Last January, PEL signed a contract with JSK Group to provide FRU and Floating Storage Unit (FSU) for the mini-scale LNG terminal in Benoa, for a duration of 5-7 years.

"The FSU will be completed and installed in the terminal next year. This year we still use LNG carrier as the FSU," the official said.

The LNG terminal will deliver 40 mmscfd of gas, sourced from the Bontang LNG plant in East Kalimantan, to the 200 MW PLTDG Pesanggaran diesel and gas power plant in Pesanggaran, Bali owned by PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN).

PEL deliberately chose to build the terminal offshore rather onshore because a floating LNG terminal is faster to build than a land-based one as land preparation is often time consuming.

Director of Operations and Business Development of Pelindo III, Rahmat Satria said earlier that the operation of the Benoa mini-scale LNG Terminal has been postponed to early May of this year, assuming that the permit for the use of foreign vessel will be issued mid March, and the first gas shipment takes place end of March.
