Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry or Kadin Aburizal Bakrie said that many local companies could not join the tender process in the country's oil and gas sector not because of technical incapability but due to the many non-technical requirements.
"Almost all of the (non-technical) requirements could not be fulfilled by the local companies," Aburizal was quoted as saying by the Republika daily.
He said that among of the requirements impossible to be fulfilled by the local players included assets size of more than US$200 million, working experience of between 10-20 years, and production capacity of 400 thousand tons.
He urged the government to immediately take action, to allow the local players to be able to participate in the tender process.
"Local businesses must be given the opportunity so that huge investments in the oil and gas sector are not only enjoyed by foreign investors, but also by the Indonesians," said Aburizal, who's also chairman of the Bakrie Group conglomerate.(*)
