The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, better known locally by the acronym Kadin, is trying a technology from Germany which is able to convert low rank coal into liquid fuel.
Endang Kusmayadi, Vice Chairman for Border Area Development at Kadin, said the so-called liquid green technology has a price tag of US$14 million. Kadin holds the patent right license of the technology in Indonesia.
?(Using the technology), 70 tons of coal can be converted into 24 tons of liquid fuel with a 95 octane quality,? Endang was quoted by Kompas.com as saying, adding that a two hectare plot of land is needed to develop a plant using the machine.
Kadin is running a trial operation in coal rich areas of Malino and Nunukan in East Kalimantan. (*)
