KAI awards $81m coal wagon procurement contract

State-owned railway firm PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has appointed Surabaya-based firm PT Petrotama International instead of state-owned railway maker PT Industri Kereta Api (Inka) to procure 1,200 rail coal wagons, Bisnis Indonesia reported Tuesday.

Petrotama International, which won the tender worth of US$81.45 million, will import the wagons from its Chinese principal Babtou BeFang Chuangye Co, Ltd.

The wagons are expected to be delivered at Lahat regency, South Sumatra in 2011 through 2013.

Inka?s president director confirmed on Monday that Inka has lost the tender from Petrotama International. (*)
