Indonesian state railway firm PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) reported transporting 27.6 million tons of coal in the first half of 2025, representing 82.92% of the total freight volume. This marks a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
According to spokesperson Anne Purba, the majority of the coal transported by KAI is delivered from South Sumatra to power plants in Java and Bali, contributing to the stability of the national electricity grid.
