Ministry of the Acceleration of Development of Eastern Indonesia Manuel Kaisiepo inaugurated Tuesday the operation of the 1x7 megawatt mine-mouth power plant in Berau regency, East Kalimantan.

Petromindo.com reported from Berau that the power plant will supply electricity to the regency and its capacity is planned to be doubled to 2x7 MW by early August.

The power plant will consume around 100,000 tons of rejected coal annually supplied by coal producer PT Berau Coal.

The power plant will be operated by a consortium of East Kalimantan provincial government, PT Berau Coal and state-owned electricity firm PT Indonesia Power.

Meanwhile, the governor of East Kalimantan Suwarna Abdul Fatah said on Tuesday that the province has also planned to build another three mine-mouth power plants.

According to Suwarna, the new power plants are to be located in East Kutai regency, Kutai Kartanegara regency, and Balikpapan city and will have a capacity of 2x7 MW, 2x25 MW, and 1x50 MW respectively. (alex)
