The paper quoted provincial deputy governor Wan Abu Bakar as saying that the development of the gas block is crucial because part of the gas would be delivered to the planned Teluk Lembur gas fired power plant, which will help resolve the current power shortage in the province.
He was speaking in Pekanbaru on Monday during a public campaign for the gas project.
The paper also said that Kalila would cooperate with local government owned companies PT Bumi Siak Pusako and PT Riau Petroleum in developing the Korinci Baru gas block.
The Korinci gas block consists of five gas fields namely the Baru, Korinci, Perak, Segat and Bantu.
This portal previously reported that Kalila expected it would be able to produce about 20 million standard cubic feet (MMSCF) of gas per day from the block during the early years of the gas field operation. The gas production would be gradually increased to about 80 million MMSCF per day, and oil condensate of about 100 barrels per day.
The gas to be produced from the gas fields would be transmitted to PLN’s power plant in Teluk Lembur, Pekanbaru through a 100-km pipeline, while the condensate will be sent to nearby crude oil processing facilities.(*)
