State-owned electricity firm PT PLN said that the Kalimantan transmission line project, totaling 7,800 kms, is targeted to be completed in 2019.
Business Director for Kalimantan Region at PLN, Djoko Raharjo told Petromindo.com over the weekend that last year, a 700-kms transmission line was completed. ?This year, the target is to complete another 2,200 kms,? he said.
He said that construction is currently in progress for transmission line linking Kuaro, Paser, Petung, and Penajam Paser Utara in East Kalimantan.
In the northern part of East Kalimantan, transmission lines and substations linking Bontang and Sangata in East Kutai are in progress, targeted to be completed in 2018.
Construction works are also in progress linking Senipah (Kutai Kartengara Regency) and Palaran (Samarinda).
In the central part of the province, transmission line construction works are in progress linking Tenggarong-Kota Bangun (Kutai Kertanegara), following recent completion of the substation.
Once this projects are completed, the transmission line will be further expanded from Bontang-Sangatta to the northern part, Muara Wahau, Tanjung Redeb, and then to North Kalimantan.
In the southern part, transmission line will be developed in Senipah-Palaran, which will be linked with the Samarinda network all the way to Teluk Balikpapan. In the central region, the Tenggarong-Kota Bangun network will be expanded to Sendawar, Kutai Barat. ?This network will be linked to Central Kalimantan.
Djoko said the project will interconnect the Kalimantan power system, helping to create a more flexible electricity system in the island to help avoid the frequent blackout problem in the region.
