Kalimantan Energi Lestari to commence production in 2003

South Kalimantan based coal mining firm Kalimantan Energi Lestari is scheduled to commence operation in 2003 with initial production of 1 million tons per annum, ramping up to 3 million tons per year the following year, the company?s brochure said.
The concession area is located in the southeastern part of South Kalimantan, covering 2,500 hectares of land. A hauling road and a coal loading jetty are constructed to bring the coal from mine to barges.
The company is controlled by Sumber Mitra Jaya Group, a local major coal mining contractor. The company said most of the coal sales were planned for long term contracts.
The brochure said the coal resources is 42.7 million tons with calorific value in the range of 6,300 ?7,100 Kcal/kg with low sulfur and ash content. (alex)
