South Kalimantan iron ore miner PT Sebuku Iron Lateritic Ores (SILO) has temporarily stopped production following after a waste dam broke and water and mud from the dam polluted nearby land, river and sea, Banjarmasin Post reported.

The daily quoted a company official as saying that it would not resume production until the dam is fully repaired.

The dam broke on April 11, 2010 following a unusually heavy rain.

SILO, which operates a mine in Sebuku island plans to produce 3 million tonnes of oron ore this year, all of which will be exported to China. (*)
