Kalindo plans biomass power plants in W. Kalimantan

PT Kalindo Central Accord plans to develop two biomass power plants, each with capacity of 1x10 MW, in Landak Regency and Sanggau Regency, West Kalimantan Province.

Dony Rimba, General Manager of the company told Petromindo.com that the company is currently conducting feasibility study for the two projects. "We are still negotiating for the exact location with PLN (state-owned electricity firm) and we are still conducting the feasibility study," he said, but did not say when construction is targeted to start.

Dony revealed that the feed stock for the planned power plants will be palm oil waste, and woods. ?We plan to use red calliandra (Calliandra calothyrsus) and bamboo as the feedstock,? he said.

He added that for the bamboo plantation the company is currently preparing around 3,000 hectares of land in Sanggau Regency. Meanwhile, in Landak Regency the company prepares around 4,500 hectares of land for planting calliandra and bamboo. The company is budgeting around US$20 million of investment for each power plant project.
