Kalla to build $33m geothermal power plant

After its success to building the Poso I hydropower plant in Poso, Central Sulawesi, Kalla Group will build a geothermal power plant in Mount Lompobattang, South Sulawesi with investment of about US$33 million, Kontan reported on Tuesday.

Kalla Group chairman Fatimah Kalla said on Monday that the construction of the geothermal power plant was expected to further solve the acute shortage of power supply in South Sulawesi and its neighboring provinces.

She said that the construction of the power plant would also support the government?s program to increase the power supply from renewable energy to 20 percent by 2025. Fatimah did not unveil when the construction of the power plant would be started but said it would take about four years to complete.

Kalla Group has recently inaugurated the operation of the Poso I hydropower plant in Poso lake, Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi which was built with investment of about Rp 4 trillion. The 195 MW power plant is the first of three hydropower plants to be built in the Poso lake. (*)
