Australian firm Kangaroo Resources Limited (KRL) reported on Wednesday that it has completed the delivery and sale of the first thermal coal product in Indonesia.

KRL has delivered its first 4,200 tonne barge of coal to the Cahaya Fajar Kaltim power station in East Kalimantan on schedule, it said.

The Company has sold this coal as part of a competitive tender process whereby relationships have been established to supply greater volumes of coal in months ahead as the ramp-up of the Graha Panca Karsa (GPK) Project accelerates. The Company will be working to provide a consistent supply of thermal coal into this tender over the term of the contract, it said.

The GPK Project, which is located in the regency of KutaiBarat, East Kalimantan, is targeted to produce up to 100,000 tonnes of thermal coal per month by early 2011, and ultimately up to 3-4 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) by 2012. The development of site infrastructure is progressing to allow effective increase in production rate to meet the scheduled operation targets, and will continue throughout the first half of 2010.

?The commencement of coal operations at GPK represents the first key milestone in KRL?s tiered production strategy, which is based on achieving production from 2-3 projects this year,? the Company said.

The Company is also announced that significant progress has been achieved at the recently acquired Mamahak Project acquired from South Gobi Energy Resources.

?This project has commenced preliminary operations and will become KRL?s second producing coal mine,? it said.

A technical operations team has been assigned to the Mamahak Project and is currently on site working on the existing mining area. ?This positions KRL to achieve production from two different mines within the next month, diversifying its production to both thermal and coking coal products.?

Initial production targets of up to 30,000 tonnes per month are scheduled from this project while the Company conducts further test work, it said.

Ultimately, KRL will target production of up to 1 Mtpa from the Mamahak Project together with the adjacent Jawana and Borami Projects that form part of the Company?s portfolio in East Kalimantan, the Company said.(denny)
