PT Kar Powership Indonesia, a local subsidiary of Turkey-based floating power plant maker Karpowership, hopes to be able to realize this year an agreement with Indonesia?s state-owned ship maker PT PAL Indonesia to develop floating power plants at the latter?s facility.

This was said by Kar Powership Indonesia Investor Relations Manager Hendri Satrio as quoted by Kontan on Wednesday.

As has been reported by this portal, Kar Powership signed a MoU with PAL in October of last year to develop a combined 5,000 MW of floating power plants in seven years. ?Hopefully, after seven years, PAL will be able to build on its own. I don?t have the details yet, but what is clear is that there will be transfer of technology,? he told the paper.

Meanwhile, PAL President Director Firmansyah Arifin told Kontan that the floating power plants will have different capacities ranging from 60 MW to 240 MW.

He added that the floating power plants will be sold at home and the export market. He said there is strong demand for power ships in Southeast Asia, Africa and even in Europe. ?We?ll build larger power ships with sophisticated technology and two types of fuel, solar and gas,? he said.

Kar Powership has supplied power ships to provide electricity in remote regions in the country such as one stationed in Amurang, North Sulawesi.(*)
