Karpowership, PAL team up to build floating power plants

Turkish firm Karpowership, the owner and operator of the world?s largest Powership fleet, and state shipbuilding firm PT PAL on Thursday signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement for the construction of the first 4 Indonesian Powerships in the shipyards of Indonesia. PAL CEO Budiman Saleh and Karpowership CEO Orhan Remzi Karadeniz signed the agreement during the visit of President Joko Widodo to Ankara.

Under the agreement, PT PAL will construct 4 Indo Mermaid Class Powerships with installed capacities of between 36 to 80 MW for the provision of electricity to different islands across the Archipelago. The size of the investment for these first 4 Powerships is expected to be around US$ 600 million. With this strategic cooperation, Karpowership will further advance its operations in Indonesia where, as of today, Karpowership has an installed capacity of 845 MW.

Karpowership is the only owner, operator and builder of the first Powership? (floating power plant) fleet in the world. Currently, Karpowership owns and operates 13 Powerships with an installed capacity of 2700 MW and 4500 MW Powerships under construction. Karpowership is operational in Ghana, Indonesia, Lebanon and Zambia (via Mozambique). Karpowership is operational in Indonesia since 2015. (*)
