Upstream authority SKK Migas is studying an option of allocating gas from the Kasuri block in Papua, developed by Genting Oil, to a methanol-based olefin factory to be built by PT Chandra Asri and German company Ferrostaal Industrial Projects GmbH.

"They want the gas from Kasuri. This will be one of market options for Kasuri, if the price is right. This can also be the basis for a POD," said Deputy of Commercial Control at SKK Migas Widhyawan Prawiraatmadja to Petromindo.com, adding that the allocation could amount to 18 mmscfd.

Chandra Asri and Ferrostaal have earlier signed an agreement to set up a methanol-based olefin factory in Bintuni region.

The facility would have production capacity of up to 400,000 tons of polypropylene and 175,000 tons of ethylene per annum.
