KCN says it remains committed to complete Marunda port project

PT Karya Citra Nusantara (KCN) said it remains committed in completing construction of pier 2 and pier 3 at the Marunda Port in North Jakarta.

The project has been hampered by lingering legal dispute between KCN and state-owned PT Kawasan Berikat Nusantara (KBN), which owns and operates the Marunda bonded zone where the Marunda Port is located.  KCN is 85 percent owned by PT Karya Teknik Utama and 15 percent owned by KBN.

KCN President Director Widodo Setiadi was quoted as saying Friday that the company has spent Rp 3.5 trillion for the completion of pier 1 and a third of pier 2.  He said that if the court ruling favors the company, construction of pier 2 and pier 3 should be completed in 3-4 years, or in 2022 or 2023. “Construction work at pier 2 remains in progress,” Widodo said.

The three piers were initially targeted for completion in 2010.  KCN was set up in 2005, and two years later construction of pier 1 was completed and was immediately operated.  But since then, construction of pier 2 and 3 has suffered delays primarily due to the ensuing legal dispute. (*)
