PT Krakatau Daya Listrik (KDL), a subsidiary of IDX-listed sate owned steel manufacturer PT Krakatau Steel (Tbk), will convert some units of its combined cycle power plant (PLTGU) into coal-fired power generators.

Indra Pinem, KDL?s Planning & Commerce Director, told Petromindo.com recently that the company has a combined cycle power plant with a total capacity of 400 MW (5x80 MW) which has been left idle since three years ago due to the increase in gas price.

?We plan to convert 2x80 MW into coal-fired power units,? he said adding.

The firm is holding tender to procure two boilers for the project and the result of the tender is expected to be announced in July 2016

Indra explained that the conversion project is expected to be completed by 2018 after around 28 months of the development. Total investment for the project is around US$ 90 million, which is to be spent for the construction of coal jetty, procurement of boilers and others.
