KEI to resume Sepanjang oil production by year-end

Kangean Energy Indonesia (KEI), the operator of Kangean PSC offshore East Java expects to resume oil production from Sepanjang field by the end of this year.

?KEI is currently in the process of tendering Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit, which, hopefully, could be installed by the end of this year,? KEI President and General Manager Keisuke Inoue told Petromindo.Com on Tuesday.

Inoue expected the field could produce between 7,000-10,000 barrels per day from three wells.

KEI was forced to stop production from Sepanjang field in December 2007 after bad weather and strong wind hit and damaged the field?s FSO.

Inoue also said that development of Terang-Sirasun-Batur (TSB) gas field within the PSC is progressing and is scheduled to commence production in 2010. According to Inoue, TSB would be producing 300MMCFD of gas for 4-5 years before gradually declining.

Currently, Kangean block produces less than 40MMCFD of gas from maturing Pagerungan gas field.

Inoue said KEI is currently undertaking 3D seismic at the block to prepare for future exploration drilling campaign.

KEI is conducting the activities in the PSC under the management control of Mitsubishi Corporation (Mitsubishi) and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd (Japex), with Energi Mega Persada Tbk. (EMP) as a partner.(alex)
