KEM participates in ?bird observation week?

Gold mining firm PT Kelian Equatorial Mining (KEM) participated in the so-called ?bird observation week? at its mining sites in Kelian, West Kutai in East Kalimantan.

The Kaltim Post daily said that bird observation week was held from Oct. 16-18 in all Rio Tinto mining operations in the world in a campaign to help protect the environment in cooperation with Bird Life International. KEM is 90 percent owned by Rio Tinto.

Some 21 employees and 16 senior high school students participated in the program. The paper said that there were around 48 species of birds identified by the participants.(*)
