State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) announced Saturday that Kendari coal-fired power plant, one of power plants built under the first stage of the government?s 10,000 MW fast track power plant development program, has begun its commercial operation.
Kendari power plant, which has a power generation capacity of 2 x 10 MW, became the first power plant built under the 10,000 power plant projects to operate outside Java, PLN said in the statement.
The first unit of the power plant began operation on Sunday and it expected to fully operate next month while the second one is expected to follow suit in June.
The operation of the Kendari power plant, which is located in Nii Tanasa, some 30 kilometers from Kendari, the capital of Southeast Sulawesi province, will be able to significantly reduce PLN?s operating costs in the province. (giok)
