The Kepodang field witin the Muriah block offshore Central Java, operated by Petronas Carigali Muriah Ltd, started gas production at a rate of 56 mmscfd at the end of August, upstream authority SKK Migas said in a statement on Wednesday.

The gas is transmitted through pipeline to the Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF), whence it is then delivered to PLTGU Tambak Lorok combined cycle power plant in Semarang, the province?s capital, owned by state owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara.

?The gas volume will increase in phases to 116 mmscfd, depending on the readiness of PLN,? SKK Migas? Chairman Amien Sunaryadi said.

The Gas Sales and Purchasing Agreement (GSPA) was signed by Petronas and PLN on June 29, 2012. The contract is effective through 2026.

President of Petronas Carigali Muriah Hazli Sham Kassim said the firm felt happy over the fact it was still able to meet its commitment despite the oil price slump. The Kepodang field has successfully delivered its first gas thanks to good cooperation among all stakeholders and full supports from the Government of Indonesia.

On the upstream side, the Kepodang field project included the development of a Central Processing Platform (CPP), Wellhead Tower-C (WHTC), a 2.7-km pipeline from WHTC to CPP, including an Onshore Control Facility. On the downstream side, the project included the development of a 200-km pipeline linking ORF to PLTGU Tambak Lorok.

The block is 80 percent owned Petronas, 20 percent by Saka Energi Muriah Ltd, a subsidiary of state controlled gas distributor PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Tbk).
