Bauxite miner PT Kereta Kencana plans to start construction of a 1 million-ton per annum capacity alumina smelter in 2015.
Company Advisor Ladjiman Manik told Petromindo.com recently that the smelter, to be located near its 179 ha bauxite mining concession in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands Province, is projected to start commercial operation in 2017. ?Initial production will be about 200,000 tons,? Ladjiman said, adding that aside from absorbing bauxite ores from its own mine, the smelter would also take ores from other IUP miners in Riau Islands and West Kalimantan.
