PT Kideco Jaya Agung, the country?s third largest coal producer, has set a lower coal production target this year amid the lingering coal downturn.

Bambang Setiawan, an adviser at the company told Petromindo.com on Thursday that the company has set a target of 31 million tons of coal production this year. "Last year we were able to produce up to 40 million tons, but this year we will decrease our output by 25 %," he said, adding that the company is ready to increase the output if the coal price starts to recover. "So one of our strategies is getting coal with low cost production," he said.

Kideco, which was set up in 1982, operates coal mines in East Kalimantan.
