East Kalimantan-based coal miner PT Kideco Jaya Agung will replace its mining contractor PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia with PT Pamapersada Nusantara by April this year, an industry source said Saturday.

The source said the replacement had been decided following troubles caused by Thiess workers.

Under its three-year contract with Kideco, Pamapersada would carry out activities including coal hauling and overburden removal work.

Kideco is one of Indonesia?s top coal producers, operating a coalmine in Pasir regency, East Kalimantan. South Korea-based Sam Tan Co. Ltd. owns 100 percent of the company.

Kideco produced around 11.3 million tons in 2002.

Meanwhile, Pamapersada is fully owned by heavy equipment supplier PT United Tractors. It serves several coal mining firms such as PT. Adaro Indonesia, Indominco Mandiri, PT Tambang Batu bara Bukit Asam and Multi Harapan Utama. (alex)
