Kideco updates coal resources, to expand production to 50 MTPA

Indonesia-listed energy firm PT Indika Energy Tbk, in its latest update about the reserves of its partly-owned East Kalimantan coal miner PT Kideco Jaya Agung, said the miner has 1.367 billion tonnes in coal resources based on the latest JORC statement as of April 2011.

The company said that the aggregate probable and proved coal reserves were estimated at 651 million tonnes and total estimated coal resources, including coal reserves, were 1.367 billion tonnes.

Indika also said that Kideco is now conducting to expand the mine?s installed capacity production to 50 million tonnes by the end of 2012.

In a May, 2010 presentation, Indika said that to reach 40 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) coal production, Kideco will optimize the development of its largest coal pit called Samarangau, which has resources of 694 million tonnes (based on JORC report in June 2009) and mineable reserves of 348 million tonnes. Coal produced at Samarangau has CV of 4,275 Kcal/kg.

Kideco will also build a new haul road and bridge connecting another pit called Susubang to its crushing plant. The company will gradually increase its output to the ultimate target of 40 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) starting 2015.

At the present, Kideco operates five active blocks at its concession areas: Roto North, Roto South, Roto Middle, Sususbang and Samarangau.

The company has produced 29.1 million tonnes during 2010 and it expects to produce 31 million tonnes of coal this year.

Kideco is the country?s third largest miner with 50,400 ha concession. Indonesia-listed energy firm PT Indika Energy Tbk has a 46 percent stake in Kideco and South Korean firm Samtan Co. Ltd 49 percent stake and local company PT Muji Inti Utama 5 percent stake. (denny)
