Killara defines Belu manganese primary target

Australia-listed exploration firm Killara Resources Limited said on Tuesday that it has received the report on the geological mapping and sampling program undertaken on its 80% owned Belu Manganese Project in East Nusa Tenggara by consultant geologists GMT Indonesia.

The work completed by GMT consisted of geological mapping and surface / rock chip sampling across the three concessions that form Belu with the aim of determining the geological setting of the project area, identifying potential controls on manganese mineralization and defining targets for follow up exploration.

The work completed by GMT was the first systematic modern exploration program applied to the project area and consisted of geological mapping and sampling on a series of broad reconnaissance traverses across the project area designed to locate, identify and map areas of outcrop to enable the development of an enhanced understanding of the areas geology and the potential controls on manganese mineralization, the company said.

A total of 69 surface / rock chip samples were collected, with 20 of these samples analysed for a manganese suite of elements and 14 analysed for a base metals suite of elements. The balance of the samples were retained for petrographic and geological assessment.

Of the 20 surface / rock chip samples analysed for the manganese suite of elements, 10 samples returned manganese values greater than 20%, with a maximum manganese value of 47.75%, it said.

The company has an 80 percent stake in Belu project. (alex)
