Some 1,500 employees of coal mining firm PT Kitadin in the Imbalut Kutai area, East Kalimantan province, agreed on Friday to end their strike following the company agreement to fulfill part of their seven demands, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.
The paper said that Kitadin agreed to raise the daily allowance for food to Rp 4,000 per seven working hours per day from the current Rp 3,000 level.
The company also agreed to annul its earlier decision to fire 53 employees which had first made the demand for the improvement in employee welfare condition.
The agreement was reached during a negotiation held at the local parliament building.
Some 1,500 employees of Kitadin had staged a strike over the past couple of days demanding for improvement in employee welfare.
The strike had disrupted the company's coal production.
The employees agreed to end the strike although the company had only fulfilled three of their seven demands. The other demands would be discussed next year. (*)
