Kitadin employees to continue strike

Some 1,200 of employees of coal mining firm PT Kitadin in Imbalut area in Kutai, East Kalimantan, would continue their strike until the company fulfilled their welfare improvement demands including a raise in salary, the local Kaltim Post daily reported.

The paper said that a negotiation facilitated by the Kutai parliament only resulted in the company fulfilling 3 out of the 7 demands of the protesting employees.

Kaltim Post also reported that the protesting employees urged the legislators to help fight for the rights of the employees not to take the sides of the company.

Kitadin has some 2,103 employees. The company said that the strike by the 1,200 employees have not caused the company to halt production. The company expects the protesting employees to resume their work until a resolution has been reached. (*)
