Kitadin's mine collapses, three workers killed

Three workers were killed when a tunnel in one of coal mining company PT Kitadin Banpu's underground coal mines in Tenggarong Seberang district,Kutai Kartanegara regency, East Kalimantan collapsed, killing three workers on Tuesday, Kompas daily reported.
The company said that that the accident occurred when pillars which supported the roof of the tunnel in one of its underground mines collapsed. Five workers were trapped in the tunnel, but two of them survived but with serious injury.
According to the police report, one of the workers managed to come out from the collapsed tunnel and reported the accident to the company's office. But evacuation could not be taken immediately because the difficulties to reach the location.
Kitadin, a unit of Thai energy magnate Banpu PLC, operates both open and underground mines in its concession areas in the province.
It's not immediately clear whether the company's mining operations are being shut down. (*)
