KM Bossawa collides with Unocal’s ship

KM Bossawa IV ship capsized and sank in the Kalimantan sea near the Handil Bekapai oil production area off East Kalimantan after a collision with a ship owned by Unocal, one of the oil producers in the area, Banjarmasin Post reported on Monday.
The newspaper said that the Bossawa ship carrying 1,400 tons of cement collided with the Unocal ship on its way from Makassar to Samarinda. No deaths were reported in the incident. All of the cargo ship’s crew could be rescued with the help of the Unocal ship.
The Balikpapan port authority said that the incident occurred after the Unocal ship incidentally hit the body of the Bossawa ship. The crash caused massive leak that caused the cargo ship to sink. (*)
