Australian listed mining company Iluka Resources Ltd. said Wednesday output from its Indonesian tin mining unit PT Koba Tin surged 51% to 3,460 metric tons in the first quarter of 2001, compared to the same quarter last year.

"Operations at Koba Tin continued uninterrupted for the first quarter of 2001, in contrast to a sharp fall in output during the first three months of 2000, when mining was restricted by civil unrest," Iluka said in a statement.

The satement also said tin output at PT Koba Tin, which operates on Bangka Island off southeast Sumatra, was also boosted by improved efficiency and increased purchases from small-scale mining operations, Iluka said.

PT Koba Tin is 75 percent owned by Iluka, while the remaining 25 percent is owned by publicly listed state tin miner PT Tambang Timah Tbk. (alex)
