Koba Tin?s 2002 output 12,000 MT

Indonesia's number two tin producer PT. Koba Tin is expected to reach its 2002 target output of 12,000mt of refined tin, an official from Malaysian Smelting Corp was quoted by Platts as saying Friday.
MSC holds a 75 percent stake in Koba Tin.State tin miner PT. Timah holds the balance.
The official said that Koba Tin was likely hold 2003 output at the 2002 level.
Meanwhile, Koba Tin is considering building a new tin smelting plant on Bangka Island, off South Sumatra. "Nothing's being finalized yet, but there are intentions," the official said.
The official declined to elaborate on the cost or proposed capacity of the plant, as it was still in planning stage. Koba currently has only two furnaces with a total designed smelting capacity of 12,000mt/year. Koba's capacity can reach 15,000mt/year under a toll smelting arrangement with PT Timah. (*)
